Do you think God and the Bible are "generic"?

If you are not yet a Christian, do you have a feeling or opinion that God has no class and you have to make too much of an effort to figure Him out; perhaps beause you find it difficult to understand the Bible and believe that too many people have too many opinions of God and the Bible and you don't know which one to believe? If you do, this can leave your heart open to a series of reasonings to doubt God and who He really is and can leave you deluded to His purpose for your life.
I recently had a conversation with someone who thinks that God and the Bible are generic.
His contention was that he was somewhat troubled that he felt like he had to spend time reading the Bible to try and figure out who God is. I attempted to respond by saying that trying to understand God and the Bible with human reasoning can be futile.
He did not seem to agree with me when I told him that you must have the Spirit of God living within you to understand Him.
That is what the Bble says in I Corinthians 14-15 : "But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him,and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no man."
The word "appraised" is the same word as "discerned". Trying to figure God out without His Spirit in you can leave you with some deceptive results, therefore becoming mislead by your own understanding.
Living and working around the world and worldly people can be a daily challenge, and to reach someone with some real truth for their heart to ponder is a great accomplishment, even though it seems that your attempt to reach that person with the love of the Gospel was not received very well.
 If you are a spirit filled Christian, attempting each day with prayer for wisdom for how to respond to unbelief can be very helpful in responding to everday situations that God may place in your path to give you that opportunity to be a light to that one in darkness.
Remember that we were once in darkness and someone spoke to us the truth if the Gospel to which we responded in order for us to come to salvation, by faith in the name of Jesus.
     Now if in fact their was a man named Jesus that claimed He died for you to forgive your sins and the God of the Bible has expressed that He has a much greater plan for your life by believing in Him than to just go through this life without Him, then I believe that should be reason enough for you to give some time to discover who He really is and what sort of plan He has for you to discover.
Or you can continue to go through your life thinking that God and the Bible are "generic", that somehow you feel that He is not worth your time or effort to try to figure Him out, even though he claimed He died for you, and then never know the joy that awaits you for placing your faith in Him for salvation.

                                           The fool has said in his heart. "There is no God".
                                           They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds;
                                           There is no one who does good.
                                           The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men,
                                           To see if there are any who understand, Who seek after God.
                                           They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt;
                                           There is no one who does good; not even one.
                                            Do all the workers of wickedness not know,
                                            Who eat up my people as they eat bread,
                                            And do not call upon the Lord?
                                            There they are in great dread, For God is with the righteous generation.
                                            You would put to shame the counsel of the afflicted, But the Lord is his refuge.
                                            O  that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion!
                                            When the Lord restores His captive people, Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad.
