Yielding to Captivity or Desiring Sustaining Freedom?
Prior to the salvation of our souls, we all have been molded into our own particular lifestyles. Mostly by our own choices and decisions we have made with our own free will, as we so desired. As a result, most of us have had many habits and addictions that have had very negative affects on our lives. You and I just simply have had a bad heart. We may have been selfish, thinking only about what we wanted in life. We may have had bad addictions such as smoking cigarettes and marijuana. Some of us have given ourselves to alcoholism, drugs, sex, pornography, homosexuality, pride and various forms of lust. These few passages of scripture describe the condition of our hearts before we gave our heart to Jesus, and now are trusting in Him to give us new desires and a new heart as He has promised.
Ephesians 2:1-6 “And you were dead in your trespasses and sins. In which you formally walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them, we too all formally lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind and by nature were children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved) and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”
What a vivid description of our hearts before and after salvation. This is an invisible battle for our hearts and souls. That is why we must rely on God and believe in His word to change our hearts. His word brings us out of the darkness our hearts have been in and into His light so as to understand how to live differently by faith and to know that we can live free from the sins that have controlled our lives for all these years. I believe that God’s purpose is that you would understand His desire for you to be called out of darkness, and to expose our inability to resolve the consequences of sin in our own strength.
1Peter 2:9-10 “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession that you may proclaim the Excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. For you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God. You have not received mercy but now you have received mercy.”
Great is our God who has given us the gift of Salvation, and the freedoms that follow. For the one who has been born-again through faith in Jesus Christ, their are battles ahead, but you are not in this fight alone. You have the King of the Universe on your side!!
His Name is Jesus, The Lord of the Heavens Armies and He knows how to win battles for you when He knows you are serious about allowing Him to be the King of your life.
Neglecting our relationship with God and failing to remain equipped daily through devotion to His word to transform our hearts and minds, can leave us confused and delusional about the purpose of God and His desire to help us stay free from the lures of this world.
Perhaps you are reading this and are still considering in your heart why you should give your life to this Jesus you have been hearing about. Do you think just maybe that He is trying to reach you? The very fact that your heart is open to listen to His word reveals some desire on your part to know Him. He has placed that faith in your heart. Living for yourself will not establish any of His freedoms in your life that you are desiring. It is only by the power of His Holy Spirit will you be given the abilty to be free and to stay free from the power of sin and it's consequences. Your heart knows the right thing to do. Calling on the Name of the Lord to rescue you will begin the process of healing and deliverance your heart so desperately needs. Follow what your heart is convicting you to do.
God has never disappointed me!
